As a lifelong practitioner of mostly traditional and realist techniques, I have come to enjoy my too few inspired forays into the more expressionist approach to painting. The spontaneity required adds a certain vigour to the making of marks. It's almost playtime. I say 'almost' because there will always be that inherent desire to wrestle back control and refine. Apparently, there's a term for that.
